Mary Agnes Rodriguez was born and raised in San Antonio's West Side. Mary has exhibited her work in numerous museums and cultural centers, among them the Texas State Capital, the Texas Women's Museum (Dallas), the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center, Centro Cultural Aztlan, Gallista Gallery, 1906 Gallery, and the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center. Mary's work was included in the major touring exhibition "Chicano Now: American Expression" which was spearheaded by actor Cheech Marin. Most recently, Mary's work was included in the traveling exhibition "Portrait of Xicano Conscience: The Great Judge Albert Pena, Jr." Mary Agnes has designed several notable murals. Her murals and canvases are known for the compelling ways in which they reflect the artist' personal experience, as well as her influences, which are drawn from traditional practices and icons in her Westside community. Mural commissions include "Stained Glass Mosaic Mural Para Herbolaria La India," "Nicho para La Virgen de Guadalupe," "Break the Cycle of Domestic Violence," and "MIs Palabras,Mi Poder," a mural that pays tribute to five important women in Westside history. Mary Agness also created the masthead design that is featured in San Anto Cultural Arts community newspaper: El Placazo. Mary is highly accomplished; she and her work are also highly admired.
